Living in Newport News

Welcome to Newport News

Newport News stretches along the James River, with historic villages, a lively City Center and plenty of established neighborhoods. It’s a great fit if you want options and an easy run up the Peninsula.

Neighborhoods to know
  • Hilton Village

A historic planned village from the World War I era, close to the James River.

  • City Center at Oyster Point

A walkable hub of restaurants, shops and residences.

  • Port Warwick

A planned neighborhood with a village square and walkable streets.

  • Kiln Creek

An established community built around a golf course.

  • Denbigh

Neighborhoods in the northern part of the city.

Lifestyle & commute

Getting around

I-64 runs the length of the city, with Jefferson Avenue and Warwick Boulevard as the main local routes, and the James River Bridge and I-664 connect you to the Southside. Fort Eustis, part of Joint Base Langley-Eustis, is in the city, and Newport News Shipbuilding is one of the area’s major employers.

Commute times vary a lot with traffic, tunnels and time of day. I’m always glad to drive the route with you.

Schools

A note on schools

Newport News is served by Newport News Public Schools. School assignments are set by address and can change, so please verify zoning for any specific home directly with the school division before you buy.
